Almaty is home to many historical landmarks that have survived to this day. One of them is the Cathedral of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God — a spiritual shrine with a history spanning more than a century. The Kazan Cathedral is the oldest functioning Orthodox church in Almaty. Although 21 Orthodox parishes operate in the city today, this cathedral holds a special place in the lives of local residents. Located on Khaliullin Street, the cathedral occupies an area of 0.71 hectares. Throughout its history, it has endured various historical periods and challenges, remaining an important spiritual and cultural center of the city.
