The titled sumo wrestler also announced plans to open a sumo school in Kazakhstan
16 feb. 2026
Kazakh professional sumo wrestler Yersin Baltagul spoke on the air of Jibek Joly about his victories at professional tournaments in Japan and his plans to develop sumo wrestling in Kazakhstan. Yersin Baltagul is the only Kazakh athlete currently competing in professional sumo tournaments in Japan. In the world of sumo, every wrestler receives an official ring name, known as a shikona, under which they compete. Yersin’s ring name is Kinbozan. The name is associated with a mountain in Kumamoto Prefecture, the homeland of his mentor, and symbolizes his affiliation with that sumo school.
